FOX NEWS CHANNEL INCREASES ADVANTAGE OVER CNN
CNN Down The Most Year-to-Year In Prime Time and Total Day In February;
FNC Has 10 out of Top 11 Shows on Cable News
In the 2004 election year, FOX News Channel (FNC)
continued to pound CNN as
its viewership advantage over its closest competitor increased to 70% in
Prime Time and 78% in Total Day, both up 14% from its 2003 advantages,
according to Nielsen Media Research.
For the first two months of 2004, FNC averaged 1,352,000 total viewers in
Prime Time vs. CNN's 796,000 viewers. In Total Day, FNC averaged 799,000
viewers vs. CNN's 450,00 viewers.
For the month of February, CNN was down the most in viewers among all the
cable news channels. Averaging only 805,000 viewers, CNN dropped 34% vs.
Feb. '03 in Prime Time. FNC averaged 1,328,000 viewers, a decrease of 25%.
In Total Day, CNN averaged only 456,000 viewers, a drop of 38% vs. Feb. '03.
FNC' averaged 792,00 viewers, a decrease of 25%.*
In persons 25-54, FNC has a commanding 82% advantage over CNN in Prime Time
and a 78% advantage in Total Day, up 19% and 23% respectively from 2003.
For the first two months of 2004, FNC averaged 420,00 persons 25-54 in Prime
Time vs. CNN's 231,000. In Total Day, FNC averaged 277,000 persons 25-54
vs. CNN's 156,000.
Also in February, FNC had 10 out of the top 11 shows on cable news. CNN's
Larry King Live finished fourth again with 1,304,000 viewers behind The
O'Reilly Factor (first with 2,233,000 viewers), Hannity & Colmes (second
with 1,505,000 viewers), and The FOX Report with Shepard Smith (third with
1,336,000 viewers).*
FOX News Channel (FNC) is a 24-hour general news service covering breaking
news as well as political, entertainment and business news. For the past
